The Royal Decree was issued by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, designating February 22 as a day for the Foundation Day, which represents the historical, cultural, and civilizational depth of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia when Imam Muhammad bin Saud established the first Saudi state in 1139 AH / 1727 AD.
It is a national occasion to celebrate the anniversary of the founding of the Saudi state by Imam Muhammad bin Saud three centuries ago. He established a political entity that achieved unity, stability, and prosperity, and on this day, Deriyah became the capital of the first Saudi state.
The Foundation Day is a commemoration of the extension of the Saudi state for three centuries, highlighting its historical and cultural depth, celebrating its diverse cultural heritage, and honoring those who contributed to serving the country, including the imams, kings, and citizens.
Imam Muhammad bin Saud assumed power in Diriyah in the second half of the year 1139 AH, and 30 Jumada al-Thani 1139 AH, corresponding to February 22, 1727 AD, was designated as the date for the founding of the first Saudi state.
The Foundation Day on February 22, 1727 AD, marks the founding of the first Saudi state by Imam Muhammad bin Saud, while National Day on September 23, 1932 AD, commemorates the unification of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia under the founder King Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman Al-Faisal Al Saud - may God rest his soul.
