As part of the National Belonging Enhancement Program and in cooperation with the Intellectual Awareness Unit, the Applied College held a symposium titled "National Belonging: Its Concept and Importance" on Monday, 2-12-2024, where the symposium was moderated by the College's Executive President Dr. Belqasem bin Hassan Al-Jaffari. The speakers included Dr. Mohammed Ali Al-Shahrani, Vice Dean of Digital Transformation and Knowledge Resources - Assistant Professor in Computer Sciences at the Applied College, and Dr. Shaima Mufarreh Al-Maliki, Executive Director of the Applied College's Female Branch.
The meeting began with the national anthem, after which Dr. Belqassem Al-Jaffari welcomed the attendees, emphasizing the importance of strengthening national belonging and a sense of responsibility towards the precious homeland through diligence, hard work, and dedication by the nation's sons in implementing the wise leadership's vision.
Dr. Mohammed Al-Shahrani then spoke about the concept of belonging to the homeland and the importance of an individual's adherence to the prevailing national values, such as pride in national symbols, commitment to existing laws and regulations, and preserving the nation's wealth and properties. He emphasized that the concept of national belonging is a fundamental need that begins with an individual's commitment to the correct Islamic faith and its tolerant teachings, then extends to belonging to the homeland of monotheism, taking pride in it, obeying its leaders (may God protect them), working towards the nation's progress and development, defending it, and making sacrifices for it.
Dr. Shaima Al-Maliki discussed the importance of enhancing national belonging and the role of security and stability in building and elevating the homeland and completing the development journey. She stressed that this is a shared responsibility between state institutions and society members, as the nation's security is everyone's responsibility. She also highlighted the crucial role of family and social institutions in strengthening national belonging through awareness, guidance, and developing a spirit of loyalty among individuals by loving the homeland, maintaining its stability, being loyal to it and its leaders, intellectually protecting and fortifying them, raising their awareness to become good models and excellent role models in society, with a high sense of responsibility, and actively contributing to the nation's advancement.
The symposium included numerous interventions from students and faculty members who affirmed their pride in their identity as Saudis, their love for the homeland, and their support for the wise leadership, while feeling responsible for their fundamental role in the nation's security, building, and development.
